Ideas for Reading Together

Before reading, look at the cover with your child. Ask what they notice about the bees, the setting, and the title. What do they imagine Suzie’s world might be like? There are no right or wrong answers: the aim is to encourage curiosity and let children share their ideas.

During reading, pause whenever an illustration catches your child’s attention. Invite them to describe what they see, identify the characters, or imagine how Suzie feels. Younger children may prefer to point at details, while older readers may enjoy explaining their thoughts in their own words.

After reading, return to a favourite page and talk about the themes of family, cooperation, courage, and respect. Ask your child to recall a moment when someone cared for Suzie, then discuss examples of helping others at home or at school.
